Kristina Aleksova (1984, Ljubljana) is a dancer, choreographer, author, and ballet pedagogue whose artistic practice moves between classical precision and contemporary performative exploration. Trained in classical ballet, Aleksova began a professional path at SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, where numerous solo and ensemble roles shaped an early understanding of performative expression through form, discipline, and emotional nuance. In 2013 Aleksova joined Tanzkompanie Graz and returned to Ljubljana the following year to continue developing a distinctive choreographic voice within independent contexts.
Since 2017, Aleksova has worked as an independent artist, choreographer, and performer. Within the Via Negativa laboratory, a space known for its research-based approach to performance, Aleksova created the works The Heart, The Kiss and Three Quarter of a Human (a co-production with Via Negativa and En-Knap Institute). Collaboration within Via Negativa also extends to numerous collective projects, including VN20: For All Pigs in My Heart, Extima: The Taste of Being, Fertile Soil and Living Space, Don’t Force Me to Say What I Think, Physis, Justice Is Coming, 365 Falls, and Naked Life. These collaborations continue to shape a practice grounded in experimentation, vulnerability, and a critical awareness of the performing body.
Aleksova is also an active collaborator with the DUM Association of Artists where work often emerges at the intersection of dance, visual art, and conceptual performance. As a movement creator and performer, Aleksova has contributed to many of DUM’s productions, including Parquet Ball, Hurry-Scurry, Stay in Line, Red Shoes, and I Would’ve Been a Palm Tree. This collaboration reflects an ongoing interest in spatial composition, collective authorship, and the potential of movement within interdisciplinary performance.
In 2023, Aleksova was the selected author for the Ventilator cycle of the Sploh Institute, a platform dedicated to contemporary performative and musical experimentation, and began mentoring at Performance Art Research Ljubljana (PARL), supporting other artists in their research and creative development.
Guided by an enduring curiosity about the world and its many misunderstandings, Kristina Aleksova creates, moves and performs within the broad field of contemporary performative arts. With a background in classical ballet, her work encompasses choreography, dance and performance, combining precision with emotional and conceptual depth. Acting as both author, movement creator and performer, she views the body as a site of thought and transformation, creating pieces that encourage contemplation, mindfulness, and subtle changes in perception.
